Embedded Electronics Engineering Intern
Design and prototype scalable Electronics Systems for mass production of next-generation tensegrity robots. Focus is largely on reliable and robust electronic hardware with interesting design constraints for operation in harsh, rugged environments (e.g., disaster sites, chemical leak sites, etc.). Specific systems to be designed involve actuators, gas sensors, wireless transmission equipment, etc. Evaluate the systems through controlled experiments; document the testing results in detail.
Specific Duties:
- Design printed circuit board (PCB) for rapid iteration
- Build prototype circuitry and test equipment
- Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers while working on, for example, actuators, motors, and electronics for future hardware designs
- Focus on PCB fabrication and assembly
- Develop system test plans and perform verification testing
Education/Experience:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering (or currently pursuing degree) or relevant experience
- Extensive experience in PCB design and manufacturing is required (Eagle, Altium, or similar software), preferably including use of surface-mount device (SMD) components
- Firmware development in C/C++ on microcontrollers is required
- Wireless communications (Bluetooth LE, 3G/4G LTE, Wi-Fi, LoRa, etc.) experience is a plus
- Prior use of hardware cameras (NTSC/PAL, MIPI / SCI) is a plus
- Low-power circuit design is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Highly organized and inquisitive
