Embedded Hardware Engineer

Primary Responsibility:

As a member of our engineering team, the Embedded Hardware Engineer will design, prototype, and construct small-volume production runs of electronic systems for the next generation of tensegrity robots.

You will take charge of the HW / FW Stack for electronic hardware that operate in harsh, austere environments (e.g., disaster sites, chemical leaks, forest fires). Specific systems to be designed involve actuators, gas sensors, wireless transmission, engineering sensors, and battery management systems. You will be working in collaboration with our engineering team - including mechanical, controls, and full stack software engineers to deliver a full product.

The goal is to make rapid iterative progress on the designs, and fabricate small (10 or fewer) production runs of key PCB assemblies for customers

.

Required Experience:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Realtime firmware development in C/C++ on microcontrollers
  • Prior experience with single board computers
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Git, and electrical development tools (logic analyzers, digital storage oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Experience with controlling peripheral devices, such as: encoders, electric actuators, motors (BDC, BLDC, stepper), sensors (capacitive, IR, etc.)
  • Some electrical prototyping experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in PCB design and manufacturing (Eagle, Altium, or similar software), preferably including use of Surface Mount Devices (SMD) components
  • New board bringup
  • Wireless communications (Bluetooth LE, 3G/4G LTE, WiFi, LoRa, etc.)
  • Prior use of hardware cameras (NTSC/PAL, MIPI / SCI)
  • Low-power circuit design
  • Implemented Agile software development and test to promote release management

Mechanical Design Engineer

Primary Responsibility:

As a member of our engineering team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will take charge of the design, prototype, and deployment of new features for the next generation of tensegrity robots.

You will manage the currently existing design, and prototype various design changes based on customer feedback and internal discussion to deliver new capabilities for the user. Systems to be designed include impact protection, electronics enclosure, and drone mechanisms. You will work in collaboration with our customer development team and electrical engineers, and will also be in charge of fabricating small (10 or fewer) production runs of robots, when appropriate.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Associate’s Degree with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical system design
  • 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks or similar software and GD&T experience
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as laser cutting, 3D printing, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with product development from concept to production release

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with PDM
  • Machining (Bridgeport Mill, Lathes) experience
  • FEA simulation
  • Experience with carbon fiber or other composites
  • Basic electrical prototyping (e.g., Arduino and breadboard)
  • Experience with hobbyist drones

Full Stack Software Engineer

Primary Responsibility:

As a member of our engineering team, the Full Stack Software Engineer will roll out new software features for the current and next generation of tensegrity robots.

You will build new features into our robotic system software stack - from programming low-level embedded microcontroller to python middleware to User Interface design and cloud-based data analytics. Features will focus on permitting higher-level analysis of robot data by decision makers. Emphasis is on rapid feature development and mid-level Python infrastructure and communication with User Interface.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python or equivalent; basic Javascript experience is desired
  • Experience with IPC through websockets
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Git

Preferred Experience:

  • Past experience working with ROS and robotics is a plus
  • Past experience with cameras is a major plus
  • Tensorflow (or equivalent) and machine learning experience is a plus
  • Experience with Continuous Integration systems
