Lead Mechatronics Engineer

The Squishy Robotics leadership team is looking for a  lead mechatronics engineer to design and assemble microelectronic circuit designs for scalable mass production of next generation tensegrity robots. The applicant must have deep experience with the design and deployment of robot mechatronic hardware from a systems-level perspective and the ability to coordinate with mechanical, software, and controls engineers in creating a cohesive robot design. The applicant will be expected to evaluate the reliability of mechatronic systems through controlled experiments (e.g., drop-testing robot from an aerial vehicle), and document the testing results in detail.

Specific Duties:

  • Design, test and evaluate PCB (printed circuit board) designs for mass production (emphasis on small form factors)
  • Build prototype circuitry and test equipment
  • Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers (e.g., work with actuators, motors, sensors and electronics for future hardware designs)
  • Work with PCB manufacturers to develop scalable circuit designs
  • Direct PCB fabrication and assembly
  • Develop system test plans and perform verification testing
  • Communicate with the leadership team to concisely summarize product development direction, issues, concerns, etc.
  • Recommend sensors, actuators, motors and other mechatronic devices for the integrated system

Job Level: Intermediate

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Industry experience with mechatronics or robotics design
  • Extensive experience in PCB (printed circuit board) and PCA (printed circuit assembly) design and manufacturing  (Eagle or similar software)
  • Knowledge of wireless communication (e.g., Bluetooth LE, 3G/4G LTE, WiFi, IEEE 802.15.4, LoRa, etc.)
  • Experience in low-level firmware development
  • Experience in low-power circuit design
  • Programming experience (e.g., C/C++ and Python)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Highly organized and inquisitive

Submission Requirements:  Please send email to info@squishy-robotics.com with your resume and portfolio of prior work (including example projects using Eagle or similar PCB software). Please put this in the subject line: Lead Mechatronics Engineer
